Today our tamariki enjoyed a wonderful day filled with storytelling, creativity, and hands-on learning experiences.
During mat time, tamariki listened to the traditional Māori story of Māui and the Sun. They were curious and engaged. This helped strengthen their listening and comprehension skills.
As part of our learning about wai (water) and ocean life, tamariki created handprint fish artwork and crafted sea stars using sand. These activities encouraged creativity and imagination. They designed unique sea creatures. In addition, these experiences helped develop fine motor skills through cutting, shaping, and decorating.
Meanwhile, our sensory water play featured a blue gloop ocean. Tamariki explored different textures, colours, and ocean-themed ideas. As a result, they built curiosity, sensory awareness, and cooperative play skills while interacting with their peers.
Another highlight of the day was working together on a large cardboard box. Children shared their ideas about what the house should look like and what it should include. Together, we planned how to transform the box into a special play space. Then we began building it based on their suggestions. This collaborative experience encouraged teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. It also gave tamariki a strong sense of ownership and pride in their learning environment. We can’t wait to reveal the finished surprise.
Throughout the day, children enjoyed a variety of indoor and outdoor experiences. They explored, created, and learned together. Friendships grew stronger as they shared ideas and resources. Overall, the day was filled with discovery, creativity, and meaningful learning.
