A Day of Dreams, Creativity, and Meaningful Learning with Hiwa-i-te-Rangi
Today was filled with imagination, creativity, and meaningful learning. We began by exploring Hiwa-i-te-Rangi. This is the Matariki star linked with hopes, dreams, and future goals.
During our morning mat time, we talked about our dreams. We discussed what we want to be when we grow up. Tamariki shared their ideas with excitement. Many wanted to become doctors, nurses, farmers, firefighters, and even superheroes like Superman.
After that, the children reflected on their future dreams. They coloured pictures of their chosen jobs. These were displayed on our “Our Dreams” cloud board.
In addition, children worked on their fine motor skills. They practised scissor cutting with magazine paper. They showed focus and safe scissor use.
Meanwhile, our toddlers sang and acted out “Incy Wincy Spider.” They followed the spider as it climbed the water spout. This supported movement, language, and participation.
Later, outdoors, tamariki explored the sandpit. They made shapes with sand tools. They also practised writing letters in the sand. These activities supported creativity and early writing skills.
As part of a transition activity, children explored emotions. They coloured different feelings. Then they shared them with friends. This helped them understand and express emotions. It also built empathy and social skills.
At the same time, toddlers painted boxes. These will be used later as sorting boxes. This helped support future learning activities.
Finally, it was a joyful day of learning and play. We followed the message of Hiwa-i-te-Rangi. It reminds us to dream big, believe in ourselves, and stay hopeful about the future.
