We started the day with a rainy morning. However, by the afternoon, the sun was shining brightly. As a result, tamariki enjoyed both indoor and outdoor learning experiences.
Throughout the day, children explored a variety of activities. For example, these included block play, imaginative play in the pretend kitchen, and creative experiences in the art area. In addition, these activities encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and communication. They also supported cooperative play with friends. Overall, tamariki built confidence, independence, and positive social skills.
During mat time, our preschoolers listened to the story The Seven Fish of Matariki. In particular, they listened attentively and showed great interest. Through the story, they learned about making positive choices. Furthermore, they learned about kindness and listening to trusted adults.
Meanwhile, our toddlers enjoyed a fun action-card activity. Each child selected a card from a box. Then, they acted out the movement shown. In addition, tamariki waited patiently for their turn. They also cheered for their friends. As a result, this helped build listening skills, turn-taking, and confidence in self-expression.
During transition time, we focused on the theme “Let’s Help Our Friends.” For this activity, tamariki worked in pairs. Moreover, they supported each other to complete a shared task. This experience reflected Mana Tangata (Contribution) and Mana Whenua (Belonging) from Te Whāriki. In doing so, children learned cooperation and teamwork. They also built positive relationships within our learning community.
To celebrate Matariki, tamariki coloured and painted stars for our centre decorations. In this way, children expressed their ideas creatively. At the same time, they developed fine motor skills. Additionally, they learned about reflection, celebration, and new beginnings.
Finally, we warmly welcomed Aathiran on his very first day. We are delighted to have him join our centre.
Overall, it was wonderful to see tamariki engaged in learning throughout the day. They showed kindness and enjoyed exploring together.
