What a fantastic and fun-filled Friday we had with our tamariki at our daycare centre Papatoetoe whānau! Days like these remind us why our childcare centre is such a special place for learning, growth, and connection.
At our Daycare centre Papatoetoe, every day is filled with meaningful experiences that support creativity, confidence, and curiosity and today was no exception!
Morning Mat Time – Exploring Chinese Numbers At Our Daycare centre
We began our morning with mat time, where our tamariki were excited to learn Chinese numbers. They showed wonderful listening skills and enthusiasm while practicing together. It was beautiful to see their confidence grow as they repeated the numbers and supported one another.
To extend our learning, tamariki traced Chinese numbers in cornflour such a fun and sensory way to explore early writing skills! Sensory play like this supports fine motor development and makes learning both engaging and memorable.
At our preschool, we love incorporating multicultural learning experiences that celebrate diversity and broaden children’s understanding of the world around them.
Celebrating a Special Graduation
Today was also a very special milestone as we celebrated Ekiaki’s graduation. Graduations are always emotional and joyful moments at our childcare centre, as we watch our tamariki take their next big step toward primary school.
We are so proud of you, Ekiaki, and we wish you all the very best as you begin your new journey at school.

Outdoor Fun at Fun N Play – Toss the Ring & Active Play
During outdoor time, tamariki enjoyed playing toss the ring. This activity encouraged focus, hand-eye coordination, and perseverance. It was lovely to see their determination and teamwork in action as they cheered each other on.
Outdoor play is a big part of our daily programme at our childcare centre. Physical activities help build strength, balance, and confidence — all while having fun!
Learning About Kind Choices
Later in the day, we watched a short movie about making kind and unkind choices. This sparked meaningful conversations about caring for others, using kind words, and showing aroha to our friends.
Social-emotional learning is at the heart of our philosophy. At our preschool, we guide tamariki to build empathy, respect, and positive friendships that will support them throughout life.
Indoor & Outdoor Exploration
Throughout the day, tamariki explored a wide range of engaging learning experiences, including:
- Slides and bikes.
- Water play.
- Connectors, LEGO, and magnets.
- Creative art activities.
These activities encourage creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and independent thinking all essential foundations in early childhood education.
A Day Full of Growth & Joy
